MARION, Ind. — Goshen College opened its Crossroads League women's soccer season Saturday evening with a 6-0 loss to NAIA no. 10 Indiana Wesleyan University at Wildcat Field.
MaKiah McCain made three saves for the Maple Leafs (4-4, 0-1). The Wildcats (6-2, 1-0) got goals from five players, with Mallory Krueger doubling up to give her team a 3-0 halftime lead. The remaining three goals came in the first 16 minutes of the second half.
Sydney Brown scored the second goal for Indiana Wesleyan before Kristy Bowden, Jackie Norris and Karly King added insurance goals. Norris added a pair of assists and Krueger chipped one in as well. Bowden took a game-high three shots and she and Krueger each had a pair of attempts hit the target.
Paige Renshaw, Anne Nisley and Brynja Rut Hjarnardottir each attempted shots for the Maple Leafs, who got 18 players into the contest and earned two corner kicks and 10 free kicks.
IWU scored in the sixth, thirteenth and 22nd minutes before rolling in a line change, making six subs in the first half-hour. Renshaw got GC on the shot counter at the 38-minute mark and Hjartardottir added another in the dying seconds of the first half.
The Wildcats pushed the lead to 4-0 on their second shot after halftime with the last two goals coming 65 seconds apart.
Goshen will return home for a three-match homestand that begins Wednesday and continues through Homecoming Weekend and into October. Mount Vernon Nazarene is the first opponent slated to visit the John Ingold Athletic Complex with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29.
