HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The season ended for Goshen men's soccer with a 3-1 defeat at (RV) Huntington on Saturday. Goshen tied for eighth in the league standings but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with Marian.
The Leafs had more shots and shorts on goal than the Foresters, but Huntington goalkeeper Pedro Moreira made nine saves.
Lucas Bontreger almost connected on a late chance with less than six minutes to go, but his attempt went off the crossbar. He led the team with six shots and five shots on goal.
Edoardo Moretti scored the first Huntington goal in the 27
th minute, and Higor Barbieri put the second one in a few minutes after halftime. Eli Simones scored Goshen's goal in the 63
rd minute. The freshman from Milford, Ohio was second on the team this year with four goals. The last Huntington goal came with thirty seconds to go as the Leafs pulled out all the stops. Joao Ratinho scored to make it 3-1, the final score.
Felipe Carli, Jonathan Aaron, Samuel Marchi,
Wendo Kisila, and Martin Gonzales also had shots on goal in addition to Bontreger and Simones.
Matias da Fonseca made six saves for GC. Huntington is 12-5-1 this season and 5-3-1 in league play.
The Crossroads League Tournament starts on Saturday, November 5. Bethel will be the one seed.
