Senior night shutout leads to league tournament spot

Goshen will face Marian in the Crossroads League Quarterfinals

GOSHEN, Ind. – With a win or tie against Huntington on Saturday night, the Goshen women's soccer team would earn an eight-seed in the Crossroads League Tournament. The Maple Leafs shut out the Foresters 1-0 and will face Marian, the one-seed, on Saturday, November 5 at Marian. Goshen recognized seniors Orsi Tatai, Alexsandra Fernandes, Anne Nisley, and Izabel Love before the game.

Lexy Adamczyk's goal in the 39th minute made all the difference. She had a run up the right side and put it past the keeper to score her second goal of the season. Gracie Garcia made 11 saves for the Leafs. Huntington had 14 total shots, and Goshen had 13. Anita Tavares nearly added a second goal in the final five minutes, but her attempt went off the crossbar.

The last time the women's soccer program made the conference tournament in back-to-back years was in 2006 and 2007. Goshen beat Huntington on the road last season to secure a spot in the tournament. The Leafs are 5-0 against the Foresters in their previous five meetings.

Anita Tavareshad four shots and two on goal. Adamczyk had three shots with one goal. Izabel Love, Klara Ebery, and Seja Lang also had shots on goal. Fernandes, Karítas María Arnardóttir, and Brynja Hjartardottir guided the defense that didn't allow any goals – the fifth time they have done so this season.

Goshen will play at #2 Marian on Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the Crossroads League Tournament. The starting time is to be determined.
