FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Goshen women's basketball team lost a second straight game at the hands of the Saint Francis Cougars on Wednesday night in Fort Wayne. A big second quarter led to an eight-point win for the home team, 66-58.
Sa'drea Rougeau got things off right from the start as she hit a three just 21 seconds into the game. She hit a jumper to tie the game at five apiece, but the Cougars took control from there. An 11-1 run created some separation, but Goshen pulled back to within five by the quarter's end.
Reganne Pate knocked down three threes in the second quarter as Saint Francis outscored Goshen 20-9. It was a 16-point game at the half, and though GC outscored the Cougars 38-30 in the last two quarters, it was not enough to make a comeback.
Saint Francis moves to 8-3 overall and remains undefeated in the Crossroads League at 4-0. Reganne Pate had 21 points on 7-11 shooting. All 11 of her shots were from behind the arc. As a team, Saint Francis shot 52% from deep. They were 11
th in the NAIA in three-point shooting but have now moved to fifth.
Rougeau contributed 14 points for the Leafs on 6-9 shooting with four rebounds and three assists. Zion Neat had nine points and was 4-4 at the free-throw line. Kyla Foster, Syanne Mohamed, Zoe Zellers, Nay Butler and Emme Boots all had 5+ points. Goshen averages 43 rebounds per game but had just 28 tonight. A bright side for the Leafs was that they committed just 13 turnovers – much lower than their season average and six better than the Cougars.
Goshen (5-3, 1-2 CL) is at Spring Arbor on Saturday, December 3, at 1:00 pm. They will be back at home on December 10.
