GOSHEN, Ind. - A career-high 19 points from
Syanne Mohamed wasn't enough for Goshen to get by Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday afternoon. A strong fourth quarter resulted in an 87-76 win for the Cougars.
Goshen had a 40-38 lead at halftime, but the Cougars had a two-point edge going into the final quarter. They outscored the Leafs by nine in the fourth and handed GC a fourth consecutive loss.
Syanne Mohamed played 20 minutes off the bench and had a career-high 19 points. She had six rebounds (4 offensive and two defensive) and shot 8-13.
Zoe Zellers also dominated inside - just shy of a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. Also close to double-doubles were
Kiana Oelling (15 points, eight rebounds) and
Kyla Foster (ten points, nine rebounds).
Zion Neat scored 15 points and passed 1,000 career collegiate points. She accumulated 866 points during her time at Columbia International University and has 142 points so far at Goshen, putting her at a total of 1,008 points.
Rylee Pireu and Maggie Coe led MVNU with 20+ points each. Goshen outrebounded Mount Vernon Nazarene 46-35 but shot worse than the visitors in field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and free-throw percentage. Goshen made just one three-pointer all day on ten attempts. The Cougars had nine more assists than Goshen.
MVNU moves to 6-5 and 2-3 in the Crossroads League and Goshen drops to 5-5 and 1-4 in conference. The Maple Leafs are back to non-conference play for the next five games. Their next game is at Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday, December 14, at 7:00 pm.
