Leafs have season-highs in offensive rebounds and turnovers in loss at Midway

Goshen had 13 more rebounds than Midway but the Eagles took nine more shots

MIDWAY, Ky. - The Goshen women's basketball team had a season-high 20 offensive rebounds against Midway on Sunday afternoon in Kentucky, but they also committed a season-high 32 turnovers. The Eagles capitalized on those miscues at the other end of the court and won 82-55.

Midway outscored Goshen in the first three quarters by at least eight points each. Dezeree White had 20 points in the first half, shooting 8-12. Then it was Aleigha Mucker that took over in the last two quarters. She finished with 17 points and three three-pointers.

The Maple Leafs won the rebound margin by 13, but lost the turnover margin by 20. Exactly half of Midway's points came off of Goshen mistakes. Despite the strong rebounding by GC, the Eagles actually ended with nine more shots taken due to the turnovers. 25 of them were steals. A 12-0 Midway run near the end of the third put the game out of reach as both teams put subs into the game.

The bright spot for Goshen was the offensive rebounding. Six of Syanne Mohamed's nine rebounds were at the offensive end, and she was one rebound short of a double-double. Kyla Foster, Sa'drea Rougeau, and Emme Boots all had multiple offensive boards.

Mohamed was Goshen's leading scorer with ten points. Montasia McAllister played a strong 13 minutes with seven points, two rebounds, two assists and shooting 3-8. Zion Neat scored seven points and Kiana Oelling and Sa'drea Rougeau each had six. Lillian Null, Seja Lang, Emily Brandeberry, and Emme Boots all scored during their minutes on the court.

Midway is now 8-5 this year and Goshen sits at 5-8. The Maple Leafs do not have any more games before Christmas, but will look to reverse their losing streak at the Jaguars Winter Classic at University Park, Illinois. Goshen faces Trinity Christian College on Thursday, December 29 at 2:00 pm ET. Then the next day, they will take on the host, Governors State University, at 4:00 pm ET.
