McQuay scores 19 off the bench in defeat on Huntington’s Senior Night

McQuay has scored in double-digits in six of the last seven games

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Goshen men's basketball team could not complete the season sweep over Huntington on Tuesday evening. The Foresters defended their home court on Senior Night, winning 87-67.
 
Huntington quickly jumped off to a 10-0 lead in the first two minutes and fifty-three seconds and later led 22-5. Goshen scored 11 of the following 15 points to cut the lead to ten, but the Foresters would fight back and bring the lead to 22. In the final minute of the first half, baskets by Clayton MacLagan and Gabriel McQuay cut the lead to 17, but Huntington had already scored 45 points in the half.
 
The Leafs were within ten with eight and a half minutes to go, but they could never make up the early deficit. Goshen was only outscored 42-39 in the second half. The Maple Leafs won the matchup against Huntington in Goshen on January 18 - Michael Johnson's game-winner in the final seconds gave Goshen a 63-62 win. However, GC couldn't finish the sweep tonight. Huntington improves to 20-9 and 9-8 in the Crossroads League.
 
In 24 minutes off the bench, McQuay was the leading scorer for Goshen. He had 19 points and shot 50% from the field. He has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games. MacLagan also had a double-digit performance off the bench, putting up 11. McQuay and MacLagan hit a couple of threes and brought down three rebounds apiece.
 
Michael Johnson scored ten and had four rebounds. Elias Ramirez added eight points, five rebounds, and four assists.
 
Caleb Middlesworth's 19 points led Huntington. Huntington came into the game ranked in the top 15 in the NAIA in points per game and averaged 89.5 per game in their last four matches. They improve to 12-3 at home.
 
The last game of the season for Goshen (7-22, 3-14 CL) is on Saturday, February 19, at 3:00 pm against Bethel. The home game is Senior Day, and Austin Branagan and student assistant Dominique Cartier will be recognized. It is also a U.S. Highway 20 Cup matchup between the two rival schools. The women's teams play at 1:00 pm that afternoon.
