Catenacci homers again but No. 8 IWU wins both

VanScoter contributes on the mound and at the plate

MARION, Ind. – Alisyn Catenacci homered for a second straight day, but Goshen couldn't capture a win at #8 Indiana Wesleyan. The Wildcats had a walk-off winner in game one, winning 3-2, and won game two 9-1 in five innings.

Shea VanScoter allowed just one earned run in 6.1 innings on the mound. She held IWU to just four hits in the entire game.

Catenacci's two-run shot came in the fourth. She had a home run in back-to-back games with another one in game two at Marian yesterday.

Indiana Wesleyan also scored two runs in the fourth. They were both unearned, as Goshen had three errors in the game. In the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats had a runner on second when Makenna Pace doubled to bring in the game-winning run, winning 3-2.

Goshen had five hits at the plate. VanScoter contributed offensively with a double, and Kyra Wilson also had one.

In game two, the Maple Leafs were on the board first. Catenacci had an RBI groundout in the first as Alyssa McDonald scored. Despite the quick start, the Wildcats shut down the Leafs after that point. Emma Etter-Cox allowed just one hit in four innings on the mound for IWU.

Indiana Wesleyan had nine runs and 13 hits, with seven runs coming between just the third and fourth innings. They hit three doubles that brought in five runs.

VanScoter had both of Goshen's hits – a single in the first and a double in the fifth. Goshen had five walks and two stolen bases but couldn't generate enough offense.

Indiana Wesleyan improves to 18-4 this season. They have won three straight and are 5-1 at home. Goshen (8-8, 0-4 CL) plays at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, March 19, at 1:00 pm in a doubleheader. MVNU is receiving votes in the coaches poll. The home opener is on Sunday, March 20, against Cleary University starting at 1:00 pm.
