SPRING ARBOR, Mich. –
Claire Ouellette had a perfect game at the plate, and
Shea VanScoter only allowed two hits in 5.1 innings in Goshen's 8-7 game two victory in Spring Arbor on Tuesday. The Cougars won game one 4-1.
Spring Arbor got on the board in the first inning of the first contest when starting pitcher Emmalee Hamp hit a solo shot to left. They added a run in the fourth from Jade Nowe's double and two in the fifth on a single from Maddie Gillett.
Down 4-0, Goshen struck in the sixth when VanScoter scored with the RBI going to
Olivia Gibson. That was all the Maple Leafs could put on the board, though, as they lost 4-1.
Mia Pawelski allowed four earned runs and five hits in six innings on the mound. Her ERA is at 3.78 for the season, and she has a 4-4 record.
For Spring Arbor, Hamp struck out seven over seven innings and walked one. She was 2-3 at the plate – scoring half of the Cougars' runs.
Goshen answered by winning game two. It started with the first of
Claire Ouellette's four singles. In the first inning, she brought
Alyssa McDonald around to score. Gibson doubled with the score tied at one in the third, and
Ri Koteles scored. Later that inning,
Carissa Fillingame hit a two-run single to push the lead to 4-1.
SAU scored once in the bottom half, but GC added another three runs in the fourth.
Grace Schmitt hit a two-run double and later scored from Fillingame's double. Goshen led 7-2.
Shea VanScoter was getting the job done on the mound. She allowed just two hits in 5.1 innings pitched. The freshman has an ERA of 2.18 this year.
The Cougars scored five of the last six runs, but Goshen survived and won 8-7.
Spring Arbor is now 8-11 and 2-6 in the Crossroads League, while Goshen is 12-10 and 2-6 in the CL. Goshen next plays on Friday, April 1, at 3:00 pm at Huntington.
