Goshen Men's Soccer Schedule 2022

Goshen men’s soccer looks to build momentum with formidable 2022 opponents

Maple Leafs host Bethel in U.S. Highway 20 Cup matchup on Homecoming Weekend

6/8/2022 12:03:00 PM

GOSHEN, Ind. – The fall sports season is right around the corner, and the Goshen men's soccer team has a full slate of games lined up as their 2022 schedule is unveiled. The Leafs are looking to build off their 6-9-3 record from a year ago.

Their win percentage improved by 22.9% from the 2020 season – the highest in that span among all Maple Leafs athletic programs that use the stat. Head coach Victor Newberg will be entering his fourth year guiding the Maple Leafs. The team will have the opportunity to face many challenging opponents, both in and out of conference.

"What excites me about the schedule the most is the high-caliber programs we have the opportunity to compete with," Newberg shared. "The strength of our non-conference schedule will prepare us well for the difficult campaign in the Crossroads League."

The home non-conference schedule for Goshen includes Division-III school Trine in an exhibition game, Lourdes, Michigan-Dearborn, St. Francis (Illinois), Madonna and Brescia. Trine, Lourdes, Madonna and Brescia all had winning records last year.

Goshen's non-conference road schedule will feature a scrimmage at Division-I program Purdue Fort Wayne and games at Holy Cross College, Indiana Tech and Georgetown College. The latter three had winning records in the NAIA last season, and Indiana Tech finished seventh in the postseason coaches poll.

A notable conference matchup is when Goshen hosts Bethel at home on Saturday, October 8, at 2:00 pm. Not only is it a U.S. Highway 20 Cup matchup against a team that is ranked #22 in the NAIA currently, but it is Homecoming Weekend at Goshen with exciting plans in the works.

Newberg is very excited about the incoming class of new Maple Leafs. "We have a balance of true freshmen I feel can get into the squad and contribute immediately and a few transfers with high-level experience and maturity."

Goshen kicks off the season with a scrimmage at Purdue Fort Wayne on Monday, August 15, at 1:00 pm.
