#7 Wildcats pull away to move to 8-0 in league play

Goshen held the Wildcats to 16.7% shooting behind the arc

GOSHEN, Ind. - The #7 Indiana Wesleyan men's basketball team defeated Goshen on Wednesday night 80-63 to remain undefeated in the Crossroads League at 8-0. Goshen was led by 13 points from Elias Ramirez.

The teams were tied at seven when the Wildcats started to create some separation and take a 12-point lead at 26-14 with nine minutes remaining in the half. However, Goshen answered with a 9-2 run to pull within five points. Indiana Wesleyan brought the lead back up to double digits with three minutes to go in the half and was up 13 at the break.

The Maple Leafs were only outscored by three points in the second half. IWU took a 24-point lead at one point, and then Goshen went on a 15-4 run to force an IWU timeout. But the visitors recovered by scoring the following six points and winning by 17.

Goshen knocked down seven threes in 20 attempts, outperforming Indiana Wesleyan's mark of 2-12 and 16.7%. Elias Ramirez was 3-5 from behind the arc and finished with 13 points. Judah Simfukwe scored 11 and dished out six assists. Isaac Miller added 11 points and four rebounds, efficiently shooting 5-7.

Fifty of the 80 IWU points were scored in the paint. Seth Maxwell guided the Wildcats with 24 points. Despite the poor three-point shooting, the team shot 52.6% overall.

Goshen is on the road at Bethel on Saturday, January 14, at 3:00 pm for a U.S. Highway 20 Cup matchup. Then the Leafs see the Wildcats again next Wednesday night in Marion.
