MARION, Ind. - The Indiana Wesleyan men's basketball team shot 61% from the floor when they defeated Goshen 91-64 in Marion on Wednesday night. The Wildcats move to 10-0 in the conference and have won five straight games.
IWU jumped to a quick 16-4 lead in the first seven minutes, but the Leafs held firm for the rest of the half. Each team scored 26 points in the next 13 minutes, and Indiana Wesleyan maintained a 12-point lead as the teams went into the locker rooms.
After a three-pointer from
Elias Ramirez with 8:30 remaining in the game, Goshen was still within 13 points. However, IWU scored the following eight points and went on a 15-2 run to go up by 26. They scored 49 points in the second half and won by 27.
The Wildcats had five players score in double figures, led by 17 points from Seth Maxwell. Goshen's
Elias Ramirez was the leading scorer on the court with 19 points. He had no turnovers in 32 minutes on the floor and was 3-5 from long range.
Judah Simfukwe scored 11 points, and
Isaac Miller had ten with three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
The Maple Leafs had a season-low 15 rebounds, while Indiana Wesleyan brought down 33. At 10-0 in the Crossroads League, the Wildcats are in sole possession of first place in the league standings. #6 Grace is next in line at 8-2, followed by a trio of 6-4 teams.
Goshen hosts Bethel on Saturday, January 21, at 3:00 pm in a U.S. Highway 20 Cup matchup. The Maple Leafs lost to the Pilots 86-70 on January 14.
