GOSHEN, Ind. - The Maple Leafs men's basketball team hit seven first-half threes and were down by just three points early in the second half against #18 Huntington on Saturday. But the Foresters' offense scored 95 points in a 95-72 win to take the three seed in the league tournament and end the season for Goshen.
Goshen's first basket of the game was a three-pointer from
Judah Simfukwe. Later in the half, Goshen had three threes in a row - a deep three from
Jo Kynard and then two more from Simfukwe to take a 28-12 deficit to a nine-point game at 30-21.
Elias Ramirez had a couple of makes from behind the arc later in the half, and
Isaac Miller had one as well. Huntington's Hank Pulver hit a three at the first-half buzzer, bringing their lead to ten at 51-41. GC was 7-16 from deep in the first half.
The Maple Leafs started the second half on a 7-0 run and were down just three at 51-48. The Foresters came back with a 9-0 run of their own to take the lead to 12, and the Leafs couldn't get within single digits from that point on.
Huntington was led by 20+ points from Zach Goodline and Lane Sparks and nine rebounds from Landen Jordan.
Kaden Johnson had a double-double for Goshen with 19 points and ten rebounds but eight of the team's 16 turnovers. Simfukwe scored 16 points and was 3-4 from three.
Elias Ramirez and
Jo Kynard each had ten points.
Huntington will host Mount Vernon Nazarene as the three seed in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals.
