GOSHEN, Ind. - The Maple Leafs men's volleyball team had their largest point differential in a set against Indiana Tech in program history on Tuesday night, but the #7 Warriors rallied to win the next three sets and take the match 3-1.
Goshen had a trio of aces in the middle of the first set to increase the lead they already held.
Leo Minetto had an ace to make it 15-12,
Ishmail Bangura's took the score to 17-13, and
Andy Bennett's made it 19-15. Goshen scored five of the final six points to win the set 25-18. The +7 point differential in the set is the best Goshen has had in program history in a set against the Warriors.
Goshen had four aces in the first set while Indiana Tech had none. The Warriors also had four reception errors in the first.
The Warriors took control at the start of the second set, going up 8-4 and forcing a GC timeout. They ended the set on a 15-1 run to win 25-8. Goshen had just three kills and 12 attack errors in the set with a -.409 hitting percentage. Indiana Tech had six blocks in the set.
The Maple Leafs hung around longer in the third and were down two at 16-14 midway through the set. The Warriors ended the set on a 9-3 run as Goshen had six service errors in the set. The fourth set had a similar finish to the third - Indiana Tech led 16-14 before winning 25-17.
After four aces in the first set, the Leafs didn't have any more for the rest of the match.
Andy Bennett finished with seven block assists and a solo block along with six digs. His eight total blocks tie a career-high for the fifth-year.
Wyatt Bollinger had 25 assists and seven digs.
Ishmail Bangura totaled 12 kills.
Pablo Sanchez had 11 digs.
Mason Milan led the attack for Indiana Tech with 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Brandon Jones had 30 assists and Joey Hermes had 11 digs.
Goshen (2-3, 2-3 WHAC) is in Whiting, Indiana on Saturday, February 11 at 3:00 pm eastern for a match against Calumet College of St. Joseph - the first nonconference match of the season.
