Rodammer goes 4-4 but Leafs drop home opener, game two postponed

Rodammer hit a double and a home run, scored twice, and added two RBIs

GOSHEN, Ind. - After building a 2-1 lead through three innings, the Goshen baseball team lost to Indiana Wesleyan 14-4 in their home opener. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to the weather.

Goshen had three consecutive singles in the first inning from Jenner Rodammer, Peyton Smith, and Trent Sillett. Sillett's hit scored Rodammer and put Goshen up 1-0 though they left the bases loaded to end the inning. The Wildcats scored a run in the top of the second, but GC retook the lead in the bottom half with an RBI single from Nate Lange.

IWU found a groove with 12 runs on 12 hits between the fourth and sixth innings to go up 13-2. Evan Salmon and Lucas Goodin hit home runs during that stretch of the game, and Colby Jenkins had some substantial hits that brought in runs. He finished the game 3-5 with three RBIs and three runs.

Jenner Rodammer hit a two-run home run to left center in the bottom of the seventh to cut down on the lead and make it a nine-run game. The Wildcats scored once in the eighth, and the Leafs could not respond, ending the game by run rule with a 14-4 score.

Rodammer was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with two runs, two RBIs, a double, and a home run. Justin Harris had a double in his one at-bat. Starter Preston Anderson had the loss after 4.2 innings on the mound with five strikeouts and nine earned runs. Indiana Wesleyan is now 12-9-1 this season and 7-2 in the Crossroads League. The Wildcats are receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll.

Goshen is scheduled to face Indiana Wesleyan again at home on Monday, March 20, for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm. These games were moved from Saturday due to the weather.
