GOSHEN, Ind. - Trent Sillett and
Chris Godden hit grand slams for the Maple Leafs on Thursday afternoon as Goshen took one of two games against Grace. GC won 11-5 in game one and lost 9-7 in game two.
The Leafs scored in each of the first four innings of game one. Sillett's grand slam came in the second inning with
Jenner Rodammer,
Chris Godden, and
Gabe Kermode on base. The shot to left center put Goshen in front 6-2.
That was just the beginning of the offensive firepower for the Leafs.
Preston Anderson had a three-run home run in the fourth inning that brought in
Joseph Cerda and
Trent Sillett. In his next at-bat in the sixth inning, he hit a solo homer to left center to bump the Goshen lead up to 11-4. Goshen won 11-5.
Anderson was 2-4 with two home runs, two runs, and four RBIs. Sillett was 2-3 with a home run and a double, two runs, and five RBIs.
Jenner Rodammer had a triple and scored twice. Eight Goshen players had a hit in the game.
Anderson was also the starting pitcher and earned the win. In seven innings pitched, he allowed four earned runs and struck out three batters. It was the most innings he has pitched in a game this season, and it improved his record to 2-3.
Chris Godden's grand slam came in the fourth inning of game two, after
Nate Lange and
Preston Anderson had RBI hits in the first inning to give Goshen a 3-1 lead. Grace scored four in the second and two in the third to go up 7-3 - the score when Godden stepped up to the plate. He cranked one to left field that hit the scoreboard over the fence, and scored
Char Reeves,
Justin Dambruck, and
Peyton Smith to tie the game.
Dalton Soergel threw five innings in relief, allowing just two hits but three earned runs. He struck out seven batters but was the losing pitcher. The Lancers scored two runs in the top of the seventh to win 9-7.
Goshen's six hits came from six different players, and their seven runs came from seven different players.
The Saturday home games for the Maple Leafs against Grace have been postponed due to incoming weather. A new date will be announced soon. The Leafs are at Huntington on Wednesday, April 5, at 3:00 pm.
