Three Maple Leafs hit home runs in game one

GOSHEN, Ind. - In the final two games of their U.S. Highway 20 Cup series, the Goshen softball team outhit Bethel 15-2 in game one on the way to a 10-2 win on Tuesday in five innings. Bethel used a four-run seventh inning to win game two 5-1.

Ella Mcleod and Kaylee Kates had RBI hits in the second inning to put the Leafs up 2-0 in game one. In the next inning, Alisyn Catenacci had an RBI single before Alyssa McDonald hit a two-run shot to center field, which moved the lead to 5-0. Shea VanScoter came up to bat later in the inning with the bases loaded. She hit a blooper to the shortstop and outran the throw to first. Kyra Wilson scored from third and Mcleod was safe at home with her slide. Carissa Fillingame took the opportunity to advance to third and was safe on that throw. Then, VanScoter easily advanced to second. Goshen was up 7-0.

Bethel's Emmie Pugh hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth, but the Maple Leafs answered with solo shots from Alisyn Catenacci and Peyton Foreman. Foreman, a first-year, started the week with no collegiate home runs and now has two - hitting them on back-to-back days. Mcleod hit an RBI single down the right field line to make the score 10-1.

She allowed four hits and three walks. After six innings it was 1-1. Goshen's run came in the third when Bianca Diamond hit a shot down the left field line to score VanScoter.

The Pilots found their groove in the seventh inning. They scored four runs on five hits, starting with a home run from Pugh that gave them the lead. The Leafs had three quick outs in the bottom half of the inning and lost 5-1.
