GOSHEN, Ind. - In a weekend full of a little bit of everything, the Maple Leafs baseball team wrapped up their series with Saint Francis on Saturday. The Cougars won game one 27-17 and took game two 7-6.
The cumulative game time between the four game set was 12 hours and 12 minutes. 1,409 pitches were thrown with 99 runs and 111 hits.
The Cougars led 17-9 in game one before the Leafs put up eight runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie it up. Then USF came back with ten runs of their own in the top of the ninth to win by ten.
There were eight instances when the Leafs had RBI singles in the game and two cases of RBI doubles. Goshen had 17 hits - 14 were singles and three were doubles.
Trent Sillett hit three singles and had three RBIs.
Joseph Cerda had three RBIs and two runs scored.
Nate Lange had three singles and two runs and
Justin Dambruck hit two singles and a double. He had two runs and two RBIs. The loss went to
AJ Lenn, who allowed five earned runs in the eighth inning.
Goshen rallied again in game two after being down 7-1. The Leafs scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one.
Jenner Rodammer scored on a wild pitch and
Preston Anderson hit a two-RBI single to center field. Later in the inning,
Joshua Rubio struck out swinging, but the catcher made an error on the throw to first that scored two unearned runs. However, neither team scored for the rest of the game and 7-6 would be the final score.
Preston Anderson had the loss, allowing three earned runs in three innings pitched.
Jarrett Willoughby had an excellent outing in relief. In four innings, he struck out five, walked none and allowed no earned runs on just two hits. The first-year from Corydon, Indiana has a 3.38 ERA this season in through 13.1 innings pitched. This was his longest outing this year. Anderson and Dambruck had two hits each for the Leafs offense.
