GOSHEN, Ind. - Jarrett Willoughby had another solid four inning outing as the Goshen baseball team beat Grace for the second time this season. Goshen won game one 11-10, but lost the second game 20-3.
Austin Martin had the start for Goshen, but Willoughby threw from the second through the fifth innings. He allowed two earned runs on three hits while his team backed him up offensively in the fourth inning.
The Maple Leafs scored eight runs on seven hits in the fourth inning alone to take a 7-1 deficit and make it a 9-7 lead.
Jenner Rodammer had a three-run home run to highlight the inning.
Chris Godden and
Joseph Cerda had RBI doubles and
Char Reeves hit an RBI single. Two more runs came in the fifth when Rodammer singled to right. He hit a homer that barely went over the fence in the right field corner and passed his teammate that went back to tag at first, so he was only credited for a single.
Grace scored three runs in the sixth, but Eric Pettipice threw the final 2.2 innings in relief to hold off the Lancers and give Goshen their ninth win of the year. This was Pettipiece's first save of the season. He allowed no earned runs and two hits. Rodammer went 3-4 with five RBIs.
Chris Godden and
Nate Lange bookended Rodammer in the top third of the lineup with two hits each.
The Maple Leafs used seven different pitchers during game two's 20-3 loss.
Grace quickly scored 15 runs in the first two innings but had just five in the next five innings.
Nate Lange had an RBI triple in the bottom of the first to put Goshen on the board and
Preston Anderson hit an RBI single later in the inning to add another run. His second RBI single came in the fifth inning. Grace had 16 hits, 12 walks and five batters hit by pitches.
Rodammer, Lange and Anderson all had a multi-hit game for the Leafs. Starter
Giacomo Padilla had the loss on the mound.
Goshen is at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday, April 21, at 2:00 pm and Saturday, April 22, at noon.
