#25 Cougars capitalize on Goshen errors in Mount Vernon

VanScoter's 11-game hitting streak ends in game one

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Eight Goshen errors led to ten unearned Cougars runs between two games as #25 Mount Vernon Nazarene beat Goshen 9-0 and 8-2 in Ohio on Friday afternoon.

Crossroads League strikeout leader Sheridan Sullivan had seven strikeouts and one walk during her five innings pitched for MVNU in game one. She allowed just two hits and no earned runs. Kaylee Kates and Mckenzie Richardson each hit singles for Goshen.

For the Leafs, Grace Schmitt allowed nine runs in 2.2 innings, but only one was earned. The bottom of the first started with two Cougars reaching base because of fielding errors. Two runs were scored in the second on another infield error, and there were two more errors in the third inning. Liliana Herrera got the final four outs, allowing no runs or hits while striking out a batter. The Cougars won 9-0 with 12 total hits.

Mount Vernon went up 1-0 after an inning in game two, then used an RBI single, double and triple in the third to go up 5-0. Alisyn Catenacci hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth to get Goshen on the board, and Shea VanScoter scored on Esme Pico's groundout later in the inning. The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 8-2, which would be the final after seven innings.

Bianca Diamond and Alisyn Catenacci had two singles each. VanScoter's 11-game hitting streak ended in game one, but she had a single in game two. She has a hit in 19 of her last 21 games.
