GOSHEN, Ind. - Alisyn Catenacci has allowed two runs or fewer in eight of her last ten starts as she led Goshen to a 3-0 game one win over Huntington on Thursday. The Foresters won the second game 11-2.
Catenacci threw four innings in game one before allowing her first hit. During her complete game, she gave up just three hits and no earned runs. She threw six strikeouts and allowed one walk.
The Maple Leafs scored just three runs, but that was all they would need to complement Catenacci's terrific performance as the starter.
Kamille Badibanga hit an RBI double to left center in the second inning that began the GC scoring.
Ella Mcleod scored to make it 1-0. Catenacci hit a two-run home run later in the sixth inning to make it 3-0.
It was the second time this week and the third time this season that Catenacci has homered as the starting pitcher. Those games account for four of her league-leading six home runs. This was Catenacci's second shutout this year and her fourth start this season in which the only hits she allowed were singles. Goshen had six hits as a team, with two coming from Catenacci.
Goshen scored the first two runs in game two, but Huntington answered with the next 11.
Shea VanScoter hit a two-RBI single to center field in the second inning that scored
Grace Schmitt and
Ella Mcleod. VanScoter has seven hits this week with five RBIs.
Grace Schmitt pitched four scoreless innings - including quick three up-three down innings in the first and third.
However, the Foresters got their first runs for the day in the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2. Then they connected on six hits in the sixth inning, scoring seven more times to go up 9-2. After two more runs in the seventh, they finished the game with 11 runs on 16 hits.
Schmitt allowed nine runs in six innings pitched, but only three of them were earned runs. The Leafs had four fielding errors in the game. VanScoter had two of the three GC hits.
Bianca Diamond had the other and stole two bases.
Mckenzie Richardson walked twice.
This was the first home loss for Goshen (19-10, 11-5 CL) this season - they are now 6-1 at the GC Softball Complex. With the Easter weekend off, Goshen hosts #20 Mount Vernon Nazarene on Monday, April 10, at 3:00 pm. MVNU is 11-4 in the Crossroads League and 19-5 overall.
