GOSHEN, Ind. - The scoring drought for the Goshen men's soccer team extended to a third game after a 2-0 loss to Holy Cross College on Wednesday night. The men had five first-half shots to match the visitors, but the opportunities slowed down in the second half.
Gabe Nyenka scored the first Holy Cross goal in the 18th minute on a beautiful strike that was difficult for Goshen keeper
Pedro Vebber to stop. The ball just got inside the post, and the Saints were up 1-0. Their second goal wasn't until 76 minutes in off the foot of Fabian Velazquez, assisted by Martin Von Thun.
The Leafs held Holy Cross to 11 shots and five on target but had just seven of their own with three on goal.
Aidan Twohig,
Mathurin Allawai and
Bryan Yahir Rodriguez had shots on goal for the Leafs. Vebber made three saves in his first start of the season as goalie. He played in one match last year in a 2-1 defeat to Brescia.
The team's next two competitions are in Michigan. On Saturday, September 2, they take on #17 Madonna at 2:00 pm.
