MISHAWAKA, Ind. - The Goshen women's basketball team had a chance to win at the buzzer, but a missed three led to a 55-53 win by Bethel in a defensive affair.
The Leafs outscored Bethel 26-22 in the second half after being down midway through 33-27. The Pilots led by nine with three and a half minutes to go, but the Leafs chipped away. It was a two-point game when Hannah Ruddle hit a couple of free throws for the home team to take a 55-51 lead. With 22 seconds left, Goshen took a timeout before their next offensive possession.
Zion Neat drove down the lane to make a layup, taking just eight seconds off the clock. The Leafs fouled, and the Pilots missed two free throws.
Montasia McAllister got the rebound, and Goshen took another timeout with nine seconds on the clock. The ball was in McAllister's hands in the final seconds, but her shot wouldn't go, and Bethel escaped with a victory.
Goshen had three players in double-digits.
Zion Neat had 14 and was a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line.
Montasia McAllister had 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. She was 4-4 at the line but 1-8 from three and 4-17 overall.
Syanne Mohamed had 12 points with eight rebounds. The Maple Leafs made just 15.4% of their threes, tied for their lowest three-point percentage this season.
