Men's soccer caps off season with road win

Simones and Garcia score Goshen's goals

UPLAND, Ind. - Although they were already out of playoff contention, the Goshen men's soccer team nabbed a 2-1 win on the road at Taylor on Wednesday night with goals from Eli Simones and Raul Garcia.

This was the first Crossroads League win of the season for the Maple Leafs and their first win since September 14 at Kuyper. Goshen's first goal came on a penalty kick by Eli Simones, his third goal of the season. That tied the game 1-1 in the 36th minute, after the Trojans had already scored in the 25th minute. Goshen had 11 corner kicks in the first half alone whereas Taylor took three. The Leafs had the shots advantage 12-8 at the midway break.

The second half was more balanced, except on the scoreboard. In the 72nd minute, Raul Garcia scored his second goal of the year on a pass from Kingsley Kanu, his second assist of the season. Pedro Vebber made three second-half saves and five over the course of the match to keep the score in favor of the Leafs by the end.

Goshen finished with ten shots on goal and 13 corner kicks. The ten shots on goal are the most that GC has had against a Crossroads League opponent since October 22, 2022 against Huntington. Stephen Bandi had two shots on goal and three total shots. Iker Fernandez-Andes had four shots and Jordan Ross Richer added three.

Goshen finishes the season with a 4-9-5 record and a 1-6-2 record in conference. The men's league tournament matches will be #8 Saint Francis at #1 Huntington, #7 Mount Vernon Nazarene at #2 Grace, #6 Spring Arbor at #3 Indiana Wesleyan and #5 Bethel at #4 Marian.
