Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. - While there was no longer postseason competition to play for, the Goshen women's volleyball team gave it their all in a four-set win against Huntington at home on Wednesday night. The 26-24, 27-25, 14-25, 25-21 win put an end to a 43-match home Crossroads League losing streak.
Goshen's last conference win at home came on November 1, 2019 in five sets against Spring Arbor. The last time the Maple Leafs beat the Foresters was in 2018.
Goshen was up 20-15 in the first set but the Foresters came back and had a set point at 24-22. However, two Huntington attack errors, a kill by
Ava Egolf and an ace from
Brenna Spangler resulted in a 26-24 first set win for GC. Huntington's first lead in the second set came at 16-15 and the teams stayed close to the end. Goshen had a chance to secure it when they were up 24-23 but Huntington scored two in a row to go up 25-24. Then Goshen responded by winning the next three, ending it with an ace from
Sami Lard.
The third set was close for the first half, but Huntington cruised in the second half. They ended the set on an 11-1 run, taking a one-point lead to an 11 point win. Yet, Goshen scored the first three points of the fourth set. Later when the teams were tied 12-12, Goshen scored five in a row only to see their advantage diminish to a 19-19 tie. Then, Goshen finished the match on a 6-2 run to win 25-21.
Kelsie Hankins had 45 assists,
Brenna Spangler contributed three aces,
Alaina Wolfe totaled 22 digs and
Sadie Brenneman put down 18 kills.
Ava Egolf had 13 kills and
Jessie Price and Hankins had 13 digs each. Huntington easily won the blocks category 11-1 and hitting percentage .255-.145, but Goshen had more aces, assists and digs.
