JOLIET, Ill. - Goshen faced St. Francis (Ill.) on the first of two days at the USF New Year's Classic. The Fighting Saints, who are receiving votes in the latest coaches poll, won by a score of 92-75.
USF made 11 of their 20 three-point attempts in the game, including shooting 7-10 in the second half. That made up 21 of their 51 points in the half. Goshen improved their field goal percentage from 40% in the first half to 46% in the second half with 42 points, but the high-powered offense from the Fighting Saints guaranteed that they kept their lead.
Richard Wilson led Goshen in points with 18 and rebounds with five.
Tariq Humes had 15 points and has improved his season scoring average over the last three games. He has scored 9+ points in 12 of his 13 games this year.
Judah Simfukwe had 13 points. He and Humes each shot 5-9 during the game.
USF had four scorers with 10+ points - Aitor Anabitarte, Joffrey Nunnally, Merrick Small and Rahmel Davis.
For day two in Joliet, Goshen faces Saint Xavier at 4:00 pm on New Year's Eve.
