Hiler and Oelling score season highs in loss to Marian

Goshen outrebounded the Knights 40-34

GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen fell to Marian 81-54 in a league game on Saturday. Despite the one-sided affair, the Leafs outrebounded the Knights 40-34.

In the first quarter, GC committed six turnovers compared to Marian's two, but GC outrebounded Marian 10-4, with four offensive rebounds contributing to four second-chance points. Despite the strong rebounding effort and five bench points, GC struggled with turnovers and fast break points, allowing Marian to capitalize and take the lead. In the second quarter, Marian capitalized with 10-19 shooting in the quarter, scoring 18 points in the paint and securing ten total rebounds, including four offensive boards.

In the third, the Leafs made 3-14 shots, all from beyond the arc, and committed seven turnovers. Despite this, they converted five of six free throws, with Seja Lang making her first career free throw in her 21st game. GC had another seven turnovers in the fourth quarter, although the bench provided a solid 12 points, and they matched Marian in points in the paint with six.

The Leafs feature several standout players based on their recent performances. Zion Neat contributed nine points and five rebounds. Carrie Hiler was a key performer from beyond the arc, hitting three of her seven three-point attempts, which ties her career high, and scoring a total of 11 points. Additionally, she set a career-high with four rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. Kiana Oelling was efficient from the free-throw line, making all four of her attempts and adding a season-high 10 points to the scoreboard. Syanne Mohamed was strong on the boards, leading the team with eight total rebounds, coupled with four points. Goshen outrebounded Marian 40-34 today, a significant improvement from their last meeting in the 2024 conference tournament, where Marian outrebounded them by 19.
