COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Goshen baseball team nearly came back from a six-run deficit on a sunny, 59-degree day in Columbia, Kentucky, against Lindsey Wilson on Friday. The Blue Raiders prevailed by a 10-8 score.
Lindsey Wilson started with a 5-0 lead due to a solo home run and RBI doubles in the first inning, a hit by pitch with the bases loaded later in the inning and a run from a balk with the bases loaded in the second.
Justin Dambruck had an RBI double to score
Chris Godden in the third, but the Blue Raiders increased their lead to 7-1.
The Maple Leafs started to gain steam in the fifth with RBI doubles from
Trent Sillett and
Peyton Smith and an RBI single from
Joseph Cerda. In the sixth, they had an RBI single from
Curtis Huffman and an RBI double off the bat of
Jenner Rodammer. Rodammer hit a two-run home run in the eighth to put the Leafs within one. The home team added one run in the bottom of the eighth, and GC had three straight outs in the top of the ninth to end the game.
AJ Lenn had the loss, allowing five earned runs in two innings.
Connor Daniel threw the final three innings and had six strikeouts and just one walk. At the plate, Goshen outhit the competition 12-11. Dambruck, Rodammer,
Peyton Smith and Godden all had multiple hits. Rodammer had three RBIs and Godden scored twice. The teams meet again for a doubleheader this time on Saturday at 1:00 pm EST.
