CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - Goshen needed only three sets to defeat Wabash, a Division III school that sported a 9-3 record going into Tuesday's match. The Leafs won 25-21, 25-21, 25-19 to end a three-match losing streak.
Wabash had defeated Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in four sets earlier this season, a team Goshen had lost to twice in three sets. But tonight, Goshen defended well, only allowing one Wabash ace - tied for a season-low.
The Leafs led 17-10 in the first set, but the Little Giants pulled within one on four occasions after that. However, they never got any closer, and Goshen ended the set on an ace from
Hasan Hadzic for a 25-21 win. Wabash led 18-13 in the second, but GC ended the set on a 12-3 run. The third set was close until Goshen used a four-point run to make a 17-16 lead to a 21-16 advantage. That made the difference in a 25-19 win.
Hadzic had 18 kills, averaging 6.00 per set. He had a .500 hitting percentage. Although he had six service errors, he was tied for the team lead in digs with six.
Sawyer Frystak had six digs and six kills.
Bruno Barac added six digs with five kills.
Igor Sapucaia had 34 assists. The Leafs had 12 more kills and 12 more assists than the Little Giants. Goshen had a .359 hitting percentage, their highest this season.
Goshen (5-9, 0-6 WHAC) is off this weekend before hosting Trinity Christian on Wednesday, March 6, at 7:00 pm for their last nonconference match.
