GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen had a hitting percentage over .400 for the first time in a match this season as they beat Trinity Christian for the fourth straight time. The Leafs won 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23.
GC won the first point of the match, a kill by
Ian Fox from the first of 50 assists by
Igor Sapucaia. But the Trolls answered by scoring the next six points, which forced a Goshen timeout. The early deficit made the difference as the Leafs lost the first set by three. Despite only winning the first set, the Trolls had their best hitting percentage in that set.
Goshen hit .435 in the first and .407 in the second. They dipped under .400 in the third but put up 17 kills and a .467 hitting percentage in the fourth.
The Leafs only had one ace all night, but they made up for it with their hitting. Three players had over ten kills.
Hasan Hadzic had 19,
Ishmail Bangura was next with 14 and
Bruno Barac added 11 more while hitting .600. Sapucaia's 50 assists are the most he has had in a match that has gone four sets or less. Fox's six block assists are the most he has had in a match of four sets or less since a win against Morningside on March 5, 2022.
Four Goshen players had five or more digs in the match -
Bruno Barac,
Ishmail Bangura,
Hasan Hadzic and
Pablo Sanchez. Trinity Christian's Alex Costa had all seven of his team's aces. The Maple Leafs haven't lost to the Trolls since January 2020.
Goshen (6-9, 0-6 WHAC) hosts Aquinas on Friday, March 8, at 7:00 pm.
