MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - An 11-0 second half run gave Mount Vernon a lead that Goshen couldn't catch up to. The Cougars took a three-point halftime lead to a 21-point win at 87-66.
The Maple Leafs were hot from behind the arc in the first half. They made six of their ten shots, with
Marcus Northern going 3-4. MVNU on the other hand made five of their 16 attempts from three.
But in the second half, Goshen was 3-11 from three and couldn't keep up the sharp shooting. Mount Vernon had an 11-point lead at 52-51 when the Maple Leafs went on a 7-0 to pull within four. That's when the home team responded on an 11-0 run of their own and eventually put the game out of reach. It was an 11 point deficit for GC with five minutes remaining but the Cougars ended it on a 16-6 run.
Marcus Northern had his first double-double of the season with 17 points and ten rebounds. His ten rebounds are a season-high. His previous best was six in a game and he averaged 3.3 per contest before today. Northern also tied a season-high with five assists.
Jared Bonds shot 5-7 with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Judah Simfukwe had 13 points and three assists with a couple of three-pointers. Goshen's 18 assists as a team is a season-high for a game.
The Maple Leafs next game is Wednesday, February 7, at 8:00 pm at home against Marian.
