Baseball falls to Knights and Bearcats

Cerda scores three of Goshen's five runs

BELLEVUE, Ky. - Goshen lost to Kentucky Christian and Brescia on Friday at Bellevue Veterans Complex. The Knights won the first game 5-3, and the Bearcats beat the Leafs 11-2. All games this weekend are seven-inning games.

The Goshen pitchers allowed 11 walks against Kentucky Christian with just one strikeout. Starter AJ Lenn allowed six walks in four innings but only gave up two runs and three hits. The Knights picked up three runs in the sixth after Goshen had a 3-2 lead, and the Leafs didn't have an answer in the top of the seventh.

Joseph Cerda scored Goshen's first run when Joshua Rubio reached base on a fielder's choice. Curtis Huffman, a transfer from Kennesaw State, hit a solo shot in the top of the fifth. Cerda scored again in the sixth when Rubio walked with the bases loaded.

Goshen outhit Kentucky Christian seven to six. Cerda and Peyton Smith each hit two singles in the game.

Goshen had seven errors in game two, even though 10 of Brescia's 11 runs would be earned runs.

The Goshen pitchers did better at limiting the walks. Lance Wilson, David Lopez and Giacomo Padilla combined to throw nine strikeouts - their most through the six games played this season.

The Maple Leafs were up 2-0 early before the Bearcats scored 11 straight. Cerda hit a two-run home run that also scored Justin Dambruck in the top of the first. Jenner Rodammer was 3-4 with three singles. Peyton Smith and Dambruck were each 2-4.
