MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Goshen softball team wrapped up their ten games in Florida on Friday with a 7-4 win over Florida National and a 3-0 loss to St. Thomas. Goshen went 8-2 at the Space Coast Spring Games and holds an 11-3 overall record this season.
Goshen vs Florida National
The Leafs beat the Conquistadors 5-2 on Thursday. When the teams met for the second time, Goshen got on the board in a hurry.
Leadoff hitter
Rachel Kates got on base on an error to start the game and she was followed by a single from
Bianca Diamond and a
Shea VanScoter walk. Still with no outs,
Olivia Gibson hit an RBI single to score Kates.
Ella Mcleod grounded out next, but VanScoter scored on the play.
Carissa Fillingame had an RBI single to center to make it 3-0.
Florida National's starting pitcher, Emma Edwards, relaxed after the first inning and held the Maple Leafs scoreless from the second through the sixth innings. FNU had two RBI singles in the second, another in the fourth and then an RBI groundout in the fifth to go up 4-3.
But in the final inning, Goshen came up clutch when they needed to most. Fillingames started the inning with a single - it would be her first of two at-bats in the inning. She scored when
Jasmin Smith hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game 4-4.
Rachel Kates and
Bianca Diamond hit RBI singles later on and
Mckenzie Richardson had a sac fly that gave Goshen a 7-4 lead. When the Conquistadors finally came back to bat, they left two runners on base and didn't score, leaving the final score 7-4.
Goshen had five errors in the game and all of FNU's runs were unearned.
Camryn Barrows allowed no earned runs and three hits in four innings as the starter.
Alisyn Catenacci earned the win for allowing no earned runs and one hit in the final three innings. Diamond and Fillingame had four of Goshen's seven hits during the game.
Rachel Kates scored two of the team's runs.

Goshen's
Grace Schmitt allowed just two earned runs in five innings as the starter. Anna Toon, the St. Thomas starter, gave up just four hits in seven innings with eight strikeouts and one walk. She is now 8-0 this season.
It was a scoreless game until the sixth when the Bobcats had an RBI double and then two walks with the bases loaded. Goshen's four hits came from
Rachel Kates,
Bianca Diamond,
