Richardson's RBI leads to another walk-off, Foresters take game one

Goshen is 4-0 this season after a loss

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Maple Leafs softball team won a game via walk-off for the fourth time this season and their second in as many days. After losing game one to Huntington 11-1, they won game two 5-4.

Game One
Goshen starter Shea VanScoter held the Foresters scoreless for the first three innings. The Maple Leafs struck first when Mckenzie Richardson hit an RBI single to right field to bring home Rachel Kates in the bottom of the third. Then Huntington's Breanna Hines responded with a solo shot in the top of the fourth.

The Goshen offense remained stagnant from the fourth on, adding only two hits in the final four innings. The Foresters, on the other hand, had a couple of big innings. They strung together five runs in the fifth and another five in the seventh on their way to an 11-1 victory.

VanScoter had the loss, ultimately allowing five earned runs in 4.1 innings. Despite giving up 13 hits, VanScoter and Alisyn Catenacci, who threw the final 2.2 innings, didn't allow any walks. Bianca Diamond had two of Goshen's hits with a double and a stolen base.

Game Two
The Leafs won game two with a four-run third inning and moved to 3-1 in the Crossroads League.

Rachel Kates, Ella Mcleod and Mckenzie Richardson hit singles and Kates would score on Richardson's. Grace Schmitt hit a two-RBI double, and Bianca Diamond hit a double down the left field line, which brought Goshen's lead to that point at 4-2.

The Foresters crept back with a run in the fourth and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to tie the game. Camryn Barrows came into the game in the sixth with a runner on and made quick work of Huntington in the seventh. Shea VanScoter reached base on an error in the bottom of the inning and moved to second on a passed ball. She advanced to third when Ella Mcleod hit a groundout, and then Mckenzie Richardson hit the RBI single that brought her home.

Not only does Goshen have four walk-off wins this season, but they also have a record of 4-0 after a loss.

Barrows is now 6-0 with the win. She allowed no hits or earned runs in six innings pitched and has an ERA of 0.72 through 29.0 innings. She only gave up two extra-base hits in that time, neither of which were home runs.

Richardson finished 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. She had a walk and a stolen base. Goshen is 13-8 in the last 21 matchups with Huntington.

Goshen (14-4, 3-1 CL) is at Saint Francis on Saturday, March 16, at 1:00 pm.
