SYLVANIA, Ohio - Goshen lost a tough five-set battle on the road at #13 Lourdes on Friday night without lead attacker
Hasan Hadzic. The Gray Wolves won 25-21, 24-26, 21-25, 25-16, 15-6.
Lourdes is 8-1 in the WHAC with the win and is now on a seven-match win streak after starting the season 1-7. Goshen took Lourdes to five sets in both matchups this season. A year ago, the Maple Leafs won just one set in the two competitions. Lourdes was at set point with a 24-18 lead in the first set when Goshen rallied off three straight points. Lourdes won 25-21, but the Leafs were building momentum for the next couple of sets.
Lourdes was at set point again in the second set with a 24-21 lead when the Leafs scored five points in a row to win 26-24.
Ishmail Bangura was the server, and his kill started the streak. The next four points all came from attack errors by the Gray Wolves. Similarly, Goshen scored the last four points of the third set to win 25-21. But after that point, Lourdes started to take over.
The home team scored seven of the first eight points in the fourth set and ended the match by winning 40 of the last 62 points. They had a .588 hitting percentage in the fifth set while Goshen was at -.056.
Ishmail Bangura had 18 kills, three aces and seven digs, but a .087 hitting percentage.
Sawyer Frystak had ten kills and a .296 hitting percentage.
Bruno Barac totaled eight kills and eight block assists.
Pablo Sanchez had 11 digs and
Igor Sapucaia had 41 assists.
