GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen wrapped up their series with Spring Arbor on Monday with a 1-3 record. They lost to the Cougars in the final two games of the series, 17-9 and 16-4.
Game One
In game one, the Goshen offense scored in every inning from the first through the fifth. Then, the Spring Arbor offense accomplished the same feat from the fifth through the ninth innings.
Goshen batters were hit by pitches ten times in the game, and
Chase Smith was hit by a pitch four times. The most hit-by-pitches the entire team had faced in a game this season was four up to this game, and this is the most for the team in a game since at least 2017. The Maple Leafs also got on base from walks on nine occasions. Spring Arbor had two more walks, six fewer hit-by-pitches, but nine more hits than Goshen. The momentum shifted with their five-run sixth inning, where they had five hits.
Jarrett Willoughby allowed two earned runs and three hits in 4.1 innings as Goshen's starting pitcher.
Baylor Orcutt lost, giving up four earned runs in two innings pitched.
Andres Garcia and
Justin Dambruck had three hits each - combining for six of Goshen's seven hits in the game. Garcia scored twice and Dambruck had two doubles, two RBIs and a stolen base. They were each hit by a pitch once. In addition to Garcia,
Jenner Rodammer,
Joseph Cerda and
Curtis Huffman each scored twice.
Game Two
The Cougars scored in every inning of their game-two win. They dominated the hits category 15-3.
The Leafs had four errors, which resulted in seven of the SAU runs being unearned. Goshen starter
Giacomo Padilla allowed four earned runs in three innings pitched.
Goshen's four runs came in a variety of ways.
Andres Garcia had a sacrifice fly,
Jenner Rodammer hit an RBI single,
Trent Sillett walked with the bases loaded, and Nate Pinedo scored on a wild pitch.
Chris Godden went 2-3 in the game, scoring twice.
