VanScoter deals from the circle and the plate in game one win, Lancers win game two

Goshen is 11-4-1 against Grace since 2019

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Goshen split a pair of games against Grace on Thursday to hold steady at .500 in league play with a 5-5 Crossroads League record. The Leafs won game one 6-3 and lost game two 8-4.

Game One
Shea VanScoter pitched all seven innings in game one for Goshen and held the Lancers scoreless for the first four innings. She hit an RBI single in the second that scored Ellie Van Heerde and Bianca Diamond scored from an RBI single off Olivia Gibson's bat in the fourth.

The Lancers had a three-run fifth inning to take the lead at 3-2, and it stayed that way through the sixth. When they needed runs most, Goshen capitalized in the final inning. The Maple Leafs scored four runs on four hits and led 6-3. VanScoter sealed the deal on the mound in the bottom of the inning.

VanScoter allowed 11 hits but had eight strikeouts and just one walk. The eight strikeouts double her previous season-high and is her most in a game since a win at Spring Arbor on April 4 last season. At the plate, she was 3-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Ella Mcleod and Ellie Van Heerde had two hits each. Six different Maple Leafs scored the six Goshen runs.

Game Two
Goshen scored in the first and last innings of game two, but what the Lancers were able to do in the middle innings put them up on top in the end.

Mckenzie Richardson hit a double to deep right-center field in the first that scored VanScoter and Mcleod and gave GC a 2-0 lead. Grace immediately answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. They added two more in the third inning, and another two in both the fourth and fifth.

Alisyn Catenacci's two-RBI single to shallow left-center in the seventh brought Goshen within four after Lily Robles and Mcleod touched home plate, but the third out came on a flyout, and Grace left with a game two win.

Camryn Barrows had the loss for Goshen. Richardson had three walks in addition to her two-RBI double. Goshen is 11-4-1 against the Lancers since 2019. The Maple Leafs (16-8, 5-5 CL) host Taylor on Saturday, March 30, at 1:00 pm.
