GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen fell to 5-7 in conference play with two losses to Taylor on Saturday, the team they lost to in the Crossroads League Quarterfinals a year ago. The Trojans won by scores of 8-2 and 5-2.
Game One
Neither team had scored going into the third inning, but the Trojans got on the board first on a home run from Livie Lehmann. It was the first of six combined homers between the two teams. They had a two-run shot in the fourth but
Carissa Fillingame had a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-1.
Esme Pico added a GC homer in the sixth. By then the Leafs were still down 5-2 and Taylor added three more runs in the seventh to make it an 8-2 win.
Alisyn Catenacci is 2-2 this season after the loss. She allowed five earned runs in 4.1 innings. Goshen had nine hits from eight players offensively. Fillingame went 2-3 with a single in addition to her home run.
Game Two
Goshen's third home run of the day came in the first inning of game two.
Ella Mcleod hit it past the fence in right center. Unfortunately, all of Goshen's homers were without runners on base. The Leafs brought the lead up to 2-0 when
Bianca Diamond hit an RBI single to left that scored
Shea VanScoter.
In the fifth, Lehmann hit a grand slam for Taylor which gave them a 4-2 lead that the Trojans never looked back from. With an RBI single in the seventh, the visitors won 5-2.
Shea VanScoter threw all seven innings for Goshen, allowing four earned runs.
Bianca Diamond was 2-3 with two singles and an RBI in the game.
Goshen (16-10, 5-7 CL) looks to end their longest losing streak of the year when they host Spring Arbor on Tuesday, April 2, at 3:00 pm.
