GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen softball is back at .500 in conference play with two wins against Huntington on Friday, 6-4 and 3-1. The games were supposed to be played in Huntington but were moved to Goshen due to field conditions. Huntington was designated as the home team.
Game One
Goshen led 1-0 in the middle of the first when Huntington had a four-run inning to go up 4-1. But Goshen's
Alisyn Catenacci came into the game in the second inning to pitch and was lights out. She allowed just two hits and no earned runs in her six innings on the mound.
The Leafs cut in on the Huntington lead with RBI doubles from
Bianca Diamond and
Olivia Gibson in the fourth.
Jasmin Smith's RBI single in the seventh tied the game and
Mckenzie Richardson's two-RBI single later in the inning gave the Leafs the lead. The Foresters left two runners on base in the bottom of the inning and the Leafs won by two.
Shea VanScoter had three hits and scored twice with two stolen bases.
Game Two
VanScoter took the mound in the second game and threw a gem. In seven innings, she allowed just four hits, one earned run and no walks. This is the first time this season that the Maple Leafs have allowed no walks and six or fewer hits in a game.
The contest was scoreless until Huntington hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Olivia Gibson had an answer in the sixth with an RBI single that scored
Bianca Diamond. In the seventh, a second Goshen run scored when
Carissa Fillingame was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Then, the third run came after an error by the HU shortstop. VanScoter took down the Foresters 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh with a pop-up, a groundout and a swinging strikeout.
Van Scoter was 2-3 offensively with two more stolen bases and a walk. She was 5-7 at the plate between the two games and has 15 stolen bases this season. Gibson went 2-4 with an RBI.
Goshen (18-10, 7-7 CL) hosts Saint Francis on Saturday, April 6, at 1:00 pm.
