GC wins third straight, takes down Aquinas in four sets

Goshen is 5-0 in matches when they have a hitting percentage over .300

GOSHEN, Ind. - The men's volleyball team won a third straight match on Friday night by taking down Aquinas in four sets - 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18. The Maple Leafs are 5-2 in their last seven matches against the Saints.

While the Leafs lost in the ace category 7-1 against Trinity Christian on Wednesday, they turned it around by beating Aquinas in the category 9-1.

Aquinas won the first point of the match, but they never held another lead in the first set. Goshen got even stronger in the second, jumping out to an 11-2 advantage on the way to a nine-point win. GC had a .538 hitting percentage in the set.

The third set was drastically different, as Goshen hit just .042. The teams went back and forth and Goshen led 15-13 when the Saints went on a 5-0 run and held their edge for the duration of the set. Yet the Leafs answered with a 7-1 stretch in the middle of the fourth set, which was crucial to winning 25-18.

Goshen's last three matches have been their best three performance in hitting percentage. The Leafs are 5-0 in matches where their hitting percentage has been over .300.

Hasan Hadzic had 22 kills and Ishmail Bangura provided 15. Bruno Barac totaled 12 digs and Sawyer Frystak had ten. Igor Sapucaia had 43 kills.

Goshen (7-9, 1-6 WHAC) hosts Cornerstone on Wednesday, March 13, at 7:00 pm. The Golden Eagles are receiving votes in the coaches poll.
