GOSHEN, Ind. - David Lopez pitched a complete game win as Goshen won one of two games against Bethel on Thursday afternoon at the Sarge Yoder Baseball Field. Bethel won the first 7-2, and Goshen won the second 6-1. The Saturday games in Goshen against Bethel have been rescheduled for Monday at 1:00 pm due to the forecast.
Game One
The Pilots recorded seven hits in the first three innings, culminating in a three-run third. Goshen got on the board in the bottom half of the inning when
Andres Garcia hit an RBI single that scored
Chris Godden.
Bethel scored once in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Lance Wilson pitched six innings as Goshen's starter, allowing six runs.
Corey Brown came in and allowed just one run in three innings, with three strikeouts and one walk. After Bethel scored in the eighth,
Trent Sillett had an RBI single in the bottom half that brought in
Jenner Rodammer to make it 7-2, but that would be the final score.
Andres Garcia and
Chris Godden had two hits - four of Goshen's seven. The Pilots had 12 hits total.
Game Two
Lopez threw all seven innings of game two, and the one Bethel run that came around was unearned. Lopez struck out six and walked four, allowing five hits. He needed 101 pitches to complete the feat and is now 1-0 this season with an ERA of 4.76.
The Maple Leafs hit the ground running offensively with two runs on two hits in the first.
Trent Sillett singled to right center, scoring
Andres Garcia.
Joseph Cerda was up to bat next and doubled down the left field line, a ground-rule double that went out of play. Sillett scored on the play to make it 2-0.
Goshen continued the hit parade with three more hits and runs in the second inning. Garcia and Cerda hit RBI singles, and
Jenner Rodammer had an RBI on a fielder's choice, which brought
Joey Paternostro home. After Bethel's unearned run in the sixth, Goshen scored their final run later in the inning as Garcia hit a sac fly. Lopez closed it out in the seventh, facing four batters in the inning.
Cerda was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Garcia had two walks and was 1-1 with two RBIs and a run scored. The win ended a seven-game losing streak against the Pilots. The complete game thrown by Lopez was the first for any Goshen pitcher this season.
