INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Goshen lost twice to #7 Marian on the road Saturday, one in a blowout and one after a near-seventh-inning comeback. Marian won 15-0 in five innings in game one and 3-2 in the second game.
Game One
Marian blew open game one with an 11-run fourth inning where everything went their way.
The Knights had 12 hits in the fourth inning alone, putting up 11 runs after already holding a 4-0 lead. Their starter, Olivia Stunkel, improved her record to 16-2 this season, allowing just one hit in four innings pitched.
Goshen had four hits, all singles, from
Shea VanScoter,
Mckenzie Richardson,
Carissa Fillingame and
Kyra Wilson. Goshen starter
Esme Pico had the loss and how has a 4-4 record this season. Marian moved to 28-7 with the win.
Game Two
Marian scored on a wild pitch in the first inning, but Goshen starter
Camryn Barrows was pitching a solid outing against the Knights early on. They added a sac fly and an RBI single in the fourth, but Barrows was not getting any run support from the offense.
That changed in the top of the seventh when the Leafs got on the board for the first time for the day.
Jasmin Smith laid down a bunt that scored
Carissa Fillingame from third. The next batter was
Shea VanScoter at the top of the order, and her double to right center scored
Grace Schmitt. The Leafs pulled within one but struck out on the next at-bat, ending the game.Â
Barrows had just her second loss of the season and has an 8-2 record. She allowed three earned runs with six strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Goshen had eight hits in the game. VanScoter had two doubles and an RBI. Current Everence Student-Athlete of the Week,
Olivia Gibson, went 3-3 with a double.
