GOSHEN, Ind. - Sometimes the score is not entirely reflective of the game that was played. That was the case in Goshen's 4-0 loss to Spring Arbor on Wednesday night at the GC Soccer Complex.

The Maple Leafs outshot the Cougars 19-17. Yet many of those opportunities were a little wide or a bit high. Spring Arbor had nine of their 17 attempts on frame, whereas that was the case for only two of Goshen's 19 shots.

SAU got on the board quickly in the third minute, but Goshen settled in and even controlled the game early on. At one point, Goshen led in shots 7-1, but Spring Arbor's one shot was a goal. The Cougars had a quick succession of goals in the 30th, 34th and 42nd minutes, however, they were held scoreless in the second half. Goshen also had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-6.

Gabriel Viau made a save on a penalty kick in the first half. It was the first penalty save for a Goshen goalkeeper since Gregor Rommelspacher on September 9, 2023. Viau finished with two saves. Junto Murata came in as goalie for the second half, allowing no goals and making three saves. Chaim Williams and Stephen Bandi had Goshen's two shots on goal. Bandi led the Leafs with four total shots. Adrian Gonzalez Martinez, Jethro Ndyomugabe and Pedro Diegues all had three apiece.

Goshen finishes the season with a 6-8-3 record. In the Crossroads League tournament, the quarterfinal matchups are #1 Bethel vs #8 Mount Vernon Nazarene, #2 Indiana Wesleyan vs #7 Huntington, #3 Grace vs #6 Marian and #4 Saint Francis vs #5 Spring Arbor.
