Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Justin DeWeese

Men's basketball falls in first road game of the season at Defiance

Allen scores 11, Hill adds two blocks

DEFIANCE, Ohio - Points off of turnovers was the main difference in the matchup between the Goshen and Defiance men's basketball teams on Wednesday night, in the first road test for the Maple Leafs this season. The Yellowjackets won 75-57, leading in points off turnovers 28-10.

Goshen never held a lead in the game, only ties at 2-2 and 7-7. Defiance led by as many as ten points in the first half, and while Goshen used a 9-0 run in the second half to pull within five, the Yellowjackets immediately answered with a 10-0 run of their own to take the lead back up to 15.

The Leafs had six more turnovers than Defiance, but the points off turnovers statistic was more drastic at 28-10 in favor of the Yellowjackets. Defiance also led in assists (19-7), steals (12-4) and points in the paint (40-26) even though the shooting percentages between the teams were similar.

Marcus Northern led the team with eight points in the first half, but struggled in the second with just two points and seven turnovers. Braden Allen had 11 points and six rebounds, adding a block and a steal. His 11 points are his second-highest total in a game, only behind his 12 points in games against Aquinas and Marian last season. All three games were on the road. Kevin Cota had eight rebounds and Deecon Hill had two blocks in 13 minutes of action. He had one block in his first 24 games as a Maple Leaf combined.

Goshen (1-2) is back at home to host Cleary on Saturday, November 8, at 3:00 pm.
