GOSHEN, Ind. - The Bethel Pilots took down the Goshen men's volleyball team in three sets on Tuesday night, 25-16, 25-20, 25-17. Bethel holds a narrow 6.0-5.5 lead in the annual U.S. Highway 20 Cup rivalry between the two schools.
Bethel led 12-11 in the first set when they went on a 5-0 run. They extended the lead even more, winning the set by nine. The Pilots led 6-1 early in the second set, and that made the difference as they won by a five point margin. The Leafs were down two late in the third set, but Bethel ended the set, and the match, on a 7-1 run.
Goshen had won the previous three matchups against Bethel, and two of them came in straight sets. This was Bethel's first ever win in Goshen. The Pilots had just nine attack errors in the match and posted a .390 hitting percentage.
Ben Koop had ten kills, four digs and two block assists for Goshen.
Avery Laforce had 19 assists and
Ishmail Bangura had two of the team's three aces.
Jonathan Arias led the Leafs with six digs.
Bethel is now 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the WHAC while Goshen is 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the WHAC. Goshen completes their stretch of four straight home matches when they face Governors State in Gunden Gymnasium on Saturday, February 15, at 7:00 pm.
