TOCCOA, Ga. - Goshen lost twice to Toccoa Falls College in a pair of seven inning games on the road on Saturday. The Screaming Eagles won 8-3 and 11-10. Goshen was up four in the middle of the seventh before Toccoa Falls scored five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Game One
Goshen starter
Corey Brown allowed a solo home run in the bottom of the first to the first batter, but then had very efficient second and third innings. Goshen got the bases loaded with their first three hitters in the top of the fourth.
Fernando Marte Santana was hit by a pitch and then
Chase Smith and
Joshua Rubio walked.
Chris Godden walked later in the inning to bring Marte Santana home. Then,
Troy Griffin hit a two-RBI single to center field to score pinch runner
Nathaniel Muriel and Smith.
The Screaming Eagles immediately responded with a seven-run fourth inning. Brown finished with allowing five runs in 3.1 innings as Goshen's starter, but only one run was earned. He struck out two and allowed six hits and just one walk. Toccoa Falls had six of their nine hits come in the fourth inning alone - four singles and two doubles.
Logan Wilson threw 1.2 innings in relief, allowing three earned runs.
Dakota Perry threw an inning and allowed no hits or runs while striking out one and needing just 14 pitches.
Chase Smith went 2-2 at the plate for Goshen with a single, a double, a walk, a hit by pitch and a run scored.
Troy Griffin had two RBIs.
Game Two
The Leafs scored four early runs in the first inning of game two via an RBI single from
Trent Sillett, a two-RBI double off the bat of
Justin Dambruck and a walk from
Nick Padron with the bases loaded. Dambruck already had his third RBI of the game after a single that scored Marte Santana in the second inning to make the score 5-0.
Eric Pettipiece had the start for Goshen, and allowed three earned runs and five total runs in 3.2 innings. He had six strikeouts and two walks, allowing six hits. The Screaming Eagles scored once in the second, once in the third and then tied the game with three fourth inning runs.
Goshen had another four-run inning in the fifth with RBI singles from
Axell Espino Montero and
Fernando Marte Santana.
Troy Griffin also scored on a wild pitch.
Chris Godden's RBI single in the sixth made the score 10-5. Toccoa Falls homered in the bottom half of the inning, but GC still had a four run lead going into the bottom of the seventh. In the seventh, the Screaming Eagles hit three singles, were hit by pitches three times and added one walk. Goshen also had one error. The game ended on a walk-off RBI single.
The series against the two teams is tied 8-8 all-time with Toccoa Falls on a three-game win streak.
Trent Sillett and
Chris Godden had three hits each for Goshen.
Justin Dambruck went 2-4 with three RBIs and
Nick Padron walked three times. Goshen had four players score two runs each -
Troy Griffin,
Axell Espino Montero,
Fernando Marte Santana and
Nathaniel Muriel as a pinch runner.
Goshen has two seven-inning games against IU Columbus on Monday at 1:00 pm on the road.
