ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Baseball lost twice on the road in a brief diversion from Crossroads League play on Tuesday against Concordia (Mich.). The Cardinals won 30-4 and 9-1.
Game One
Concordia scored once in the first and Goshen led 2-1 midway through the second.
Nathan Pinedo hit an RBI single to center field and he scored later in the inning on a throwing error. Goshen's other runs came when
Nick Padron singled to score
Joey Paternostro in the sixth and
Aidan Calvey hit his first collegiate home run in the seventh.
After starting his collegiate career going 0-11 at the plate, Calvey went 4-4 in the game, highlighted by the home run and two doubles. He scored twice and had an RBI.
Concordia scored three runs in the second and four in the third. That would be all the run support they needed, but they had nine runs in the fifth inning and 13 in the sixth inning.
Goshen had 12 hits, their second-highest total in a game this season, but they also had seven errors. Goshen pitchers allowed ten walks, hit seven batters and allowed 19 hits. Padron and Paternostro had two hits apiece.
Game Two
The GC pitching was better in game two, but the offense fell flat with just one hit.
Concordia scored four in the first, two more in the third and held a 7-0 lead after five. Goshen's one hit was a solo home run from
Justin Dambruck in the sixth. The Cardinals scored two in the bottom half of the inning and held Goshen scoreless in the seventh to win 9-1.
Goshen struck out 11 times.
Joshua Rubio and
Nathan Pinedo walked and
Justin Dambruck and
Chase Smith got on base after being hit by pitches. Each of Goshen's four pitchers hit a batter and allowed at least one earned run and two hits.
Goshen is at Bethel on Friday, March 14, at 1:00 pm. The Maple Leafs have won three of the last four matchups.
