Pinedo hit the first homer of his collegiate career

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen baseball team played their first home games of the 2025 season on Friday afternoon after playing the first 20 outside of Goshen. Indiana Wesleyan won 9-7 and 10-7.

Game One
Down 1-0 in the second inning, Nick Padron hit a two-RBI single to left center to put the Maple Leafs in the lead. Axell Espino Montero hit a three-run home run to extend the lead to 5-1. This was his second home run of the season.

Goshen went scoreless for the next six innings while the Wildcats scored in five straight. They scored four runs in the fourth, which included a three-run homer by Tanner Smith. The Leafs rallied back in the ninth as Justin Dambruck hit a solo shot, his fourth home run of the year. Chase Smith hit an RBI double to make it 9-7, but that remained as the final score after a GC flyout and groundout.

Lance Wilson had the loss, allowing six earned runs in four innings. Dakota Perry threw the next five innings, allowing two earned runs and no walks. Curtis Huffman hit three singles in the game and scored a run. Axell Espino Montero had the three-run home run and a stolen base. Fernando Marte Santana had a double and a single and Nick Padron hit two singles.

Game Two
Indiana Wesleyan had a four-run third inning that made a difference in what would be a three-run win. Goshen saw an RBI single from Trent Sillett in the first inning and a sac fly from Justin Dambruck in the third. Chase Smith hit a three-run home run in the fifth and Nate Pinedo added an opposite field two-run home run in the sixth.
