MARION, Ind. - Goshen lost twice on the road to #12 Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Wildcats prevailed 7-6 in nine innings in game one and won the next game 9-1.
Game One
GC struck first with four runs in the top of the third inning.
Celeste Gutierrez hit a sac fly,
Shea VanScoter hit an RBI single to right and
Tatem Adams hit a two-RBI single to right center. IWU had a two-RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the third and they tied the game in the fifth with a pair of RBI singles.
Adams was Goshen's starter, and she allowed two earned runs in four innings, walking just one. The score stayed 4-4 through seven, with the Wildcats leaving runners at second and third in the bottom of the seventh.
Brinleigh Arredondo hit a two-RBI double in the top of the eighth to put the Leafs up 6-4. However, the home team had a runner reach base on an error, who then scored after a triple. They tied the game on a passed ball, allowing the runner to go from third to home.
Goshen left two on base in the top of the ninth. The Wildcats walked it off in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single.
Shea VanScoter had the loss, pitching the last 4.1 innings and allowing three earned runs and five total runs. The Leafs had four errors in the game, while IWU had none.
Kamille Badibanga had a three-hit performance and
Shea VanScoter had two.
Alyssa McDonald scored twice and
Tatem Adams and
Brinleigh Arredondo had two RBIs apiece. Five of Goshen's six RBIs came from freshmen.
Game Two
In the second game, the Wildcats showed why they are on an 11-game win streak. They scored in the first and didn't look back, putting up nine runs on 11 hits.
Goshen's lone run came in the top of the sixth when they were down 5-0.
Ella Mcleod hit an RBI single to right field that scored
Carissa Fillingame. Indiana Wesleyan scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to win by run rule.
Grace Schmitt went 5.1 innings, moving her record to 3-6 this season. Goshen had five hits offensively with two coming from
Carissa Fillingame. She had a double and a single with a walk and a run scored.
Alyssa McDonald had a triple, moving her career program record to 12.
