GOSHEN, Ind. - In a game that was originally scheduled for 7:30 pm and finished at 11:01 pm, the Goshen College and Siena Heights men's soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie on Wednesday night.
Eli Simones scored the Goshen goal on a penalty kick.
Bus issues at Siena Heights prevented the match from starting on time, and the game eventually kicked off at 8:33 pm. The delay didn't hinder the Saints at the start, as they scored just 83 seconds in on a goal from Guilherme Ramos. The lead lasted for all of ten minutes however, as
Eli Simones scored on a penalty kick to the bottom right corner after a Siena Heights foul in the box. By halftime it was still tied 1-1.
In the 63rd minute, the game was delayed due to lightning in the area. After the 30 minute delay and a brief warmup period, the contest resumed at 10:27 pm. Goshen had 15 second-half shots and 21 for the game. Ten of them were on goal, much more than the seven shots and four shots on goal for the visiting team. Unfortunately though, the Leafs couldn't add one more goal to the scoreboard and finished with a tie.
Jethro Ndyomugabe led the team with five shots and
Iker Fernandez-Andes had four.
Stephen Bandi had three and
Adrian Gonzalez Martinez and
Jorge Silva had two each. Fernandez-Andes had the most shots on goal with three. After the initial goal allowed to the Saints,
Gabriel Viau made three saves.
The Leafs (2-1-1) are at Judson on Saturday, September 6, at 3:30 pm EDT.
